琳珑-Linlong

《4.6 Billion Years Symphony of

Evolution》 x Concept Art Collection

The original intention of this project was very simple, just to make a "container" for the series of concept drawings I drew to be displayed at the exhibition. After some exploration, I finally decided to use electronic screens as the medium, and interactive websites/applications as "containers". However, considering the construction period and sophistication of this "container", the exhibits on display are no longer just concept drawings as "contents", the "container" itself has become the exhibit itself. It's like a bunch of flowers in a vase. Originally, only the flowers were the decoration, but because the vase itself is too exquisite, the vase has also become part of the decoration.

This work named [《4.6 Billion Years Symphony of Evolution》 x Concept Art Collection] is that "vase with a bunch of flowers inserted". From the name, perhaps you can also see the original intention behind it. Since this interactive website prototype was not the focus of the work at the beginning, I gave it a very casual, literal, and functional name. Until the end, even though the interactive website prototype had become one of the focuses of the work, I did not change the name. On the one hand, I don't like to give names that are fancy and difficult to understand. Moreover, whether it is the concept art as the content or the website prototype as the container, the essence of this work is "tools", and tools should naturally be named like tools. On the other hand, I am not good at naming...especially in the English context.

But anyway, I hope you can enjoy my work, whether it is appreciating the concept art as "flowers" or the interactive website as a "vase". If you are interested in my concept art or other illustrations, you can follow me on Pixiv. My ID is 16732660 or "雨月 琳珑 — LinLong" (user name).

Artist Statement

Hello everyone, my name is LinLong (琳珑). Of course, this is not my real or legal name, but I prefer to use the online name/pen name "LinLong" when I am not face-to-face. As a designer, I am not outstanding, but I think I am slightly above average (maybe a bit boastful) as an illustrator. If I use the game skill tree as an analogy, I may only be at the entry-level in graphic design (1 skill point investment), while I am proficient in digital art (3 skill points investment). After all, people have limited energy and the content of learning also has a first-come, first-served basis, so I am currently majoring in digital illustration and minoring in graphic design.

There are also different sub-specialties in digital illustration. Based on my past work experience, the areas I am most familiar with are still concept art and illustration. I have also come into contact with comics, but I am not proficient in them. As for the art style, I prefer a realistic style (light and shadow rendering) but still retain certain abstract and deformed elements (anime style). Of course, I am still learning and growing. The art style is not eternal. Maybe I will try a photorealistic style in the future.

As for graphic design, I am still a novice. In terms of experience, I can't compare with many seniors who have been immersed in the industry for many years. Maybe someone will occasionally think that my designs seem to be good, but in fact, those designs that look good largely benefited from my experience in the field of digital illustration, rather than my talent in graphic design. The so-called "comprehend by analogy" (触类旁通) in the Chinese idiom is exactly like this.
