Iyo

These skateboards that I have designed, showcase Filipino or "Pinoy pride" culture, overall being Filipino-American. bringing a community into a sport that could use some representation in it as there are few known Filipino skaters, we do however have Margielyn Didal within the field. This year 2024, we won our first gold medal in the Olympics in the category skateboarding. I wanted to celebrate being Filipino and possibly open up a community to new opportunities and hobbies. From the play on words of "Oh my gulay!" to a snack that the majority of Filipino-Americans grew up enjoying (and possibly still do), or simply something to hang up on their wall to have a new talking piece for when they have guests over. This celebration of culture shows how fun, loving, and different it is through ever-evolving generations and points of view. Para sa ating lahat na Pinoy at lalo na sa aking pamilya (This is for all of us Filipinos and especially my family).

Artist Statement

When it comes to my designs, I always try to approach my work with lightheartedness and fun (depending on the project ofc). I try to look at my project through different approaches to see what best would fit and from there, I am at full speed. I try my best to incorporate as much illustrative work as possible whenever the opportunity arises. Im bold, unapologetically myself, and am always looking out for inspiration and possibly new ways of approaching a solution.
